Parking Lot, 2002
- description: Interactive video
Parking Lot is a 30 minute unedited video take of a winding journey through a parking lot in Culver City, California. The video’s playback is controlled by a small dial placed near the monitor in a console setup. The speed of the video playback is controlled by how rapidly the viewer turns the stereo dial. As the video is transformed into a series of still sequences, the viewer is compelled to study all of the possible photographic compositions in the parking lot while they experience nausea caused by the velocity and direction of the camera being in contrast to their clock-wise arm motions. The end result is a representation of navigating the parking lot that exaggerates the dizziness and disorientation experienced in the actual environment.
